About Vitek Wincza, Founder and Artistic Director
Vitek Wincza is the visionary behind the HCA Dance Theatre, establishing it In 2001 following his creation of the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts. HCA Dance Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to professional artists and the creation of new innovative works. Vitek is an accomplished ballet dancer originally from Gdansk, Poland who defected to Canada, in 1982. 

He became Artistic Director of the Hamilton Ballet School and then in 1991, became Artistic Director of the Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble. Under his artistic leadership, he created, choreographed, and produced productions such as the ballet “Snow White”, which was invited to Kiev, Ukraine for an international theatre and dance festival and won the silver medal for cultivating and maintaining the art of classical ballet by the Diaghilev Foundation in Moscow, Russia.

The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) commissioned Vitek to create and choreograph several performances for young audiences such as “Babar the Elephant”, “The Carnival of the Animals” and a modern dance version of “Pinocchio” with Robert Desrosiers. In 1997, he created, choreographed and produced “Hamilton Nutcracker”, with 30 dancers from Kiev Ballet Theatre (Ukraine), the HPO, and 90 local dancers. It sold out for eight consecutive years. In 1996, the Government of Poland honoured Vitek with a cultural merit for outstanding contributions in the arts. In 1997, Vitek revived the 100-year history of the Hamilton Conservatory of Music by developing it into the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, an all-arts centre dedicated to creating arts opportunities in Hamilton.

In 2017 Vitek was inducted into the Gallery of Distinction
